With hundreds of holocaust survivors, Williamsburg has one of the
largest survivor populations in the world. It’s a special
privilege to help the survivor population, our heroes, who rebuilt
the community.
We are grateful to our partner, the
Claims Conference, for enabling and providing the majority of the services to our
holocaust survivors, together with other funders such as the NYC
Council Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivor initiative,
NYC DFTA, among others.
The following is a partial list of our services for holocaust
survivors.
Our dedicated staff members are in touch with their survivor clients to review their medical, financial and personal needs; help them enroll in the most advantageous plans that will provide them the best care possible; and provide support to help them age in dignity and comfort.
Holocaust survivors residing in the area may qualify for Housekeeping and Homecare assistance. The UJO staff will assess your homecare and housekeeping needs and schedule weekly service hours to ensure that you receive the best care possible.
Holocaust survivors or those who were born shortly after the holocaust, may qualify for reparations. There are several reparation funds that survivors can qualify for, depending on the persecution history, and where they have been during the war.
Survivors with emergency needs, including medical and dental coverage, that isn’t paid for by their insurance can contact our office for assistance.
You may be eligible for free door-to-door transportation to medical appointments or other important travels.
Daily, nourishing, warm lunches are delivered to the home, and daily check-ins with the clients are provided to ensure that all is well.
We organize socialization events – from an annual luncheon with local speakers and entertainers, outings to beautiful parks, and sight-seeing trips to museums and cultural sites, and many other activities to help survivors remain independent.
Our clients receive food packages for the holidays to help cheer up those special occasions when they lack the financial means to do so on their own.
