The UJO collaborates with and facilitates access to children’s programs including the Yeled V’Yalda Early Head Start Program. These include home-based services for families with infants and toddlers, a socialization center for toddlers and their families, a comprehensive maternal health program and parenting classes.
The UJO acts as a community liaison to the Department of Education Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) and Committee on Special Education (CSE). The UJO assists parents with writing initial referrals, obtaining evaluations and therapeutic services such as speech, occupational, physical and vision therapies, and tutoring and counseling for their children. In addition the UJO provides troubleshooting assistance for families encountering difficulties navigating the special education process and advocates on behalf of the community to the Department of Education (DOE) for streamlined procedures and culturally sensitive policies.
